Thought for the Day from Diane |
What is Imagery - Guided Imagery?
Guided Imagery is based on the concept that the mind and body are interconnected and function as one entity.
Thoughts impact our health, immune functioning, self esteem, motivation, success, happiness and more.
Interestingly, the subconscious doesn't know the difference
between what is real or what is not. The inner mind responds quite easily and effectively to what it is "directed" to do.
Just by the simple process of "redirecting" thoughts, we are capable of transforming almost every aspect of our lives.
What is Guided Imagery?
Guided Imagery (i.e. Visualizations, Meditation, Imagery) is an active e two-way
communication between an individual and their subconscious. It is a process in which directed thoughts and suggestions guide the imagination toward a relaxed, focused state.
Imagery allows a person to "guide" their mind to "create" a desired outcome.
The more senses that are utilized, (seeing, hearing, tasting, feeling, thinking, the better. The body seems to become supercharged and responds quite easily to what was imagined as being real.
When we utilize the tremendous Power of the Mind by way of our thoughts, inner beliefs and images, we can enhance health, healing, self esteem, motivation, performance, change and happiness.
All change begins in the mind - with a single thought

Research has shown that the use of Mind Power by way of Imagery - Visualizations - Meditations and Affirmations can influence all physiological aspects of the body. These responses include, heart health, respiratory immune functioning, cellular growth, pain, relaxation, sleep and more.
The power of the mind effects all the cells and organs in our body as well as our hormones and immune system that can impact health and healing. Stress is a normal psychological and physical reaction to the demands of life. But when you're unable to cope well with the stress in your life, your mind and body may pay the price.
Your body is hard-wired by nature to react to stress in a way originally meant to protect you against perceived threats from predators and aggressors. But today's many demands may include managing a huge workload, making ends meet, taking care of aging parents as well as young children, and simply making it through the morning rush hour. You may feel overwhelmed by these daily stressors and wonder if you'll ever get a handle on all of these extra "threats"
If your mind and body are constantly on edge because of excessive stress in your life, you may face serious health problems. That's because your body's "fight-or-flight reaction" — its natural alarm system — is constantly on.
When you encounter "perceived threat" — a loud noise, for example, the hypothalamus in the brain, sets off an alarm system in your body. Through a combination of nerve and hormonal signals, this system prompts a series of hormones to be released. .
- Adrenaline: increases heart rate, blood pressure, sweating and boosts energy
- Cortisol: increases glucose (blood sugar). Unfortunately, Cortisol also decreases immune functioning, suppresses the digestive system, reproductive system and many more. .
The body's stress-response system is usually self-regulating. It decreases hormone levels and enables your body to return to normal once a perceived threat has passed. As adrenaline and cortisol levels drop, your heart rate and blood pressure return to baseline levels, and other systems resume their regular activities.
Continual stress, however, can leave a person tense, nervous and angry. When cortisol and other stress hormones are continually elevated, the body is prone to many health concerns, many life threatening.
